Pride didn’t begin as a celebration.
It began as a protest.

Before the parades, before the parties, there was resistance. What followed the 1981 Bathhouse Raids was not just outrage, but organization, courage, and the birth of a more visible, more vocal fight for queer liberation.

Long before Pride became “mainstream,” MCC Toronto was creating sacred space for queer and trans people to gather, to grieve, to organize, and to hope. At a time when most faith communities turned people away, our doors were wide open.

This Pride, we celebrate 25 Years of Affirming Love: 25 years since the world’s first legal queer marriages were officiated at MCC Toronto, a milestone we fought hard to achieve. That legacy continues.

Pride is a living, breathing expression of resistance, resilience, and queer joy. We honour the queer and trans elders and allies who marched before us, who risked everything for the freedoms we hold today (some of whom we’re grateful to see every Sunday).
