Volunteer With Us!

Volunteers have always been at the heart of MCC Toronto. We would not be the strong, inclusive and welcoming community we’ve become, without the support and dedication of volunteers who help support our Worship Services and our other public programs.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to connect with community, fulfil your passion, pick up a new skill or enrich your faith.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

MCC Toronto is currently looking for volunteers to help fill some critical needs. Programming and Worship Service volunteer opportunities are available. We hope you might join us!

Accessibility Committee: Help develop an Accessibility Plan for MCC Toronto

MCC Toronto is committed to providing an accessible experience to persons with disabilities. To support that commitment, and in response to feedback we received on accessibility in our recent survey, MCC Toronto is forming a new Accessibility Committee to help us develop an Accessibility Plan to identify and address issues that serve as barriers to full participation. This volunteer Committee, which will be supported by one of our staff members, will be charged with developing a Committee Terms of Reference and helping to form a feedback mechanism that enables us to better respond to accessibility needs and enquiries. Interested in participating? Please email jrock@mcctoronto.com with the subject heading: I Would like to Be Part of an Accessibility Committee at MCC Toronto.

Triangle Lunch Program: Serve delicious meals to students from Canada’s first LGBTQ+ high school

Serving meals to students in the Triangle Program is one of our most popular volunteer opportunities. The Triangle Lunch Program has been reintroduced this fall, with volunteers preparing and serving lunch one day a week. We hope over time to see a return of Triangle Lunch Program Service to four days a week.

Information Desk: Help us assist congregants and orient new visitors to all that MCC Toronto has to offer!

Be a welcoming face for MCC Toronto as an Information Desk volunteer! Your role would involved staffing the Information Desk in our Social Hall for a ½ hour following our in-person 11 AM Worship Service and assisting congregants in processing donations, answering questions about our special events or upcoming programs, and helping to orient new folks to all that MCC Toronto has to offer. Typically, Information Desk Volunteers serve on a once-a-month basis.

(New Role) Digital Ushers: Help us create a welcoming environment for online viewers!

Digital ushers are volunteers who are proficient in YouTube chat and have become familiarized with what’s happening at MCC Toronto. As a digital usher, you’ll work in live chat to connect with and assist online worshippers during livestreamed worship services. If someone in chat wants to know more about a church program, needs a link to a zoom gathering, or has other questions about MCC Toronto, digital ushers will be available to help! Often, this role was filled by our clergy team; but now that they’re helping lead in-person worship, they’re unavailable to interact with folks who connect with us online. Volunteers in this role will also need to serve as content moderators, identifying and removing inappropriate comments and posts.

Multimedia Team: Help us connect with worshippers in person and online!

Worship is happening in person again, but that’s not the only way to join us! We’re live streaming for folks who can’t be with us in person. We need multimedia volunteers to help make sure all worshippers are connected and included. First, we need volunteers to operate presentation software (PowerPoint) during the 9 am and 11 am services. Second, we need to add tech-savvy volunteers to our live-streaming team.

Altar Guild: Help us with our altar set-up!

A lit candle. A celebratory banner. The bread and the cup. When we’re gathered for worship, our experiences are enriched by the presence of special ceremonial objects. Volunteers on the Altar Guild see to it that these sacred objects are reverently and properly placed. Altar Guild volunteers can be scheduled to serve during the 9 or 11 AM services and should be comfortable being visible during services.

Communion Servers: Help us serve!

For many congregants, partaking in Communion is one of the most meaningful parts of worship. This simple, ceremonial meal of bread and wine follows a pattern established by Jesus himself and makes real Jesus’ promise to be with us always. Communion Server Volunteers share the elements of communion – the bread and the wine – with worshippers as they come forward to receive.

Greeters/Ushers: Help us make MCC Toronto a welcoming place!

On a busy Sunday at MCC Toronto, several hundred people pass through our open doors. Volunteer Ushers & Greeters are often the first faces many folks see when they arrive. Members of this team are responsible, not just for sharing a warm welcome with arriving worshippers, but for helping to direct the flow of people in and out of the sanctuary. Volunteers in these roles will also help ensure congregants know and follow Covid-19 protocols for social gatherings.

Sanctuary Saints

When MCC’s Sanctuary needs some TLC after a Sunday of vibrant worship, it’s the Sanctuary Saints’ time to shine! Volunteers on this team help prepare our worship space by tidying up loose papers and other items in the sanctuary and doing some light cleaning.

Each of these volunteer areas will be supported with training.
