Support for 2SLGBTQIA+ People Outside of Canada Seeking Sponsorship

Sponsorship Status and Information

MCC Toronto is not accepting new sponsorship applications at this time. This page explains what that means and where you may be able to find other support.

If You Are in Immediate Danger

MCC Toronto cannot provide emergency assistance or emergency relocation.

If you are in danger now, call local emergency services if you can.

You can also contact:

  • Rainbow Railroad — helps 2SLGBTQIA+ people at risk find support and possible ways to safety.
  • UNHCR — The UN Refugee Agency — helps refugees and people forced to leave home because of violence or persecution.

Other Places That May Be Able to Help

If you don’t have friends, family, or a sponsor group in Canada, you can’t apply directly for private sponsorship, either at MCC Toronto or the Government of Canada. You must be referred by official refugee authorities, such as UNHCR – the UN Refugee Agency.

Note: While these authorities can refer people for resettlement, but they do not guarantee resettlement in Canada. Only the Government of Canada decides who can come to Canada and who is approved for resettlement.

The organizations below may be able to help you find information, referrals, sponsorship support, settlement support, or other services:
