Our 2026 Annual Congregational Business Meeting (ACBM) will be held Sunday, July 26th, after the Worship Service. All members, congregants, and interested parties are welcome to attend; however, only members of the congregation will be able to vote. If you are unable to join us in person, we will be broadcasting the ACBM (a Microsoft Teams link that will be posted closer to).

Candidates for Election to MCC Toronto’s Board of Directors

Following a nominations and review process, the Nominations Committee is pleased to present the following two candidates for election to the Board of Directors. There are two vacancies on the Board this year, and Members will vote on the recommended slate at the Annual Congregational Business Meeting.

These two candidates have been recommended by the Nominations Committee following a recruitment and review process and endorsed by the Board of Directors for election by the Members at the Annual Congregational Business Meeting.

Alwin Kong

Alwin Kong (he/him) and his partner Ben became members of MCC in 2024, the same year their two kids were baptized in the church. Alwin & Ben first attended MCC in 2018 and like many first-timers, they were moved to tears with the feeling of welcome and inclusion experienced through worship (and music!).

Alwin recently started volunteering as a communion server and welcomes the opportunity to use his skills and experience to further serve at MCC.

Alwin is the General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer at a leading diagnostics services provider and has been practicing law predominantly in the healthcare sector for over 20 years. Alwin currently serves on the Board of a northern Ontario hospital and is active with various sections of the Ontario Bar Association. Alwin has previously served on the Board of The 519 and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers.

Dr. Michèle Bowring

After searching for many years and in many places, Michèle Bowring (she/her) found her spiritual home at MCC Toronto in January 2022. Soon after, she joined the digital ushering team, a wonderful group of people who always make her feel welcome and at home. Michèle also has fun making video clips for MCC Toronto’s YouTube channel. That’s handy, given that she’s only ever attended a service online.

Michèle worked in banking and as an optician before figuring out she belonged in a university full time and going to grad school. She’s now a mostly retired professor of Gender, Diversity and Leadership who for many years wrote about, spoke about and researched 2SLGBTQ+ experience at work.

Over the years, Michèle’s had the pleasure and privilege of mentoring and supervising many students; leading, coordinating and growing programs; and participating in university governance as a member of University Senate. She lives with her wife and their two dogs and two cats.

Thanking Outgoing Members

Colleen Kenny

At our Annual Congregational Business Meeting, we will be electing nominees for positions on MCC Toronto’s Board of Directors. One position will be open as a result of the resignation of Board Member Colleen Kenny (she/her), who has resigned as of June 1 for personal reasons. We really want to thank Colleen for her diligent and faithful service on the Board these past couple of years, and wish her well in future endeavours.

Colleen dedicated more than 35 years to volunteering, a commitment recognized with the Governor General of Canada’s Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers in 2015. Having found a second home at MCC Toronto, she continues to give back to the LGBTQ+ community, with a particular focus on supporting the needs of LGBTQ+ seniors.

Colleen has been active on our Engagement Committee and in our Senior’s ministry. She has many gifts and talents to contribute to future service to MCC Toronto. Please join in thanking her for her years of service!
