Sunday Outreach Volunteers

We’re looking for enthusiastic and compassionate individuals to serve as Outreach Volunteers for our LGBTQ+ Refugee Programs. As an Outreach Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in raising awareness about our programs and assisting interested individuals in understanding the process of becoming a member. Your dedication will contribute significantly to creating a safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ+ Asylum seekers looking for support and refuge.

Responsibilities:

  •  Table Setup and Preparation: Arrive early at the designated location and set up the outreach table with informational materials, brochures, and other relevant resources.
  •  Engage with the Public: Welcome visitors and engage in warm, friendly conversations with passersby to spark interest in our LGBTQ+ Refugee Programs. Be approachable and respectful, fostering an inclusive atmosphere for all.
  • Program Explanation: Clearly and concisely explain the mission, goals, and services offered by our LGBTQ+ Refugee Programs to potential members and interested individuals. Provide information on how people can become part of the program and access the support available to them.
  •  Answer Questions: Respond to inquiries and questions from interested individuals with accurate and up-to-date information. If unsure about a specific inquiry, direct the person to a designated point of contact or coordinator.
  •  Be Inclusive and Sensitive: Demonstrate sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds and LGBTQ+ identities. Respect the personal experiences and stories visitors share, ensuring a non-judgmental and supportive environment.
  •  Collaborate with the Team: Work closely with other volunteers and volunteer coordinators to ensure smooth operations and accurate representation of the LGBTQ+ Refugee Programs.
  •  Report Feedback: Share valuable feedback received during interactions with visitors, including suggestions for improvement and common concerns expressed, to help enhance our outreach efforts.

Requirements:

  • Strong passion for LGBTQ+ rights and refugee advocacy, along with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and safe community.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse individuals and share information in a clear and friendly manner.
  • Empathy, patience, and understanding to interact sensitively with individuals from various cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Reliable and punctual with the ability to commit to the designated outreach schedule.
  •  Previous experience in outreach or volunteering is beneficial but not mandatory.

Time Commitment:
Volunteers are expected to dedicate at least 2 hours per week (on Sundays) to the Outreach Volunteer role, with a minimum commitment of 3 months to ensure consistency and continuity in our outreach efforts.
