Rev. June Joplin joins Staff Team at MCC Toronto

Toronto – Monday, March 1, 2021 – The Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto (MCC Toronto) is delighted to announce that Rev. June Joplin will join its Staff Team as the new Associate Pastor of Programs and Congregational Care, beginning March 15. Rev. Joplin joins Senior Pastor Rev. Jeff Rock and Assistant Pastor Rev. Deana Dudley as Clergy to the congregation.

Rev. Joplin endured a very public break with her previous Church after coming out as a transgender woman in June 2020. Her coming out story and subsequent dismissal attracted worldwide media attention. Since that time she has become a much sought-after speaker and preacher.

Born and raised in North Carolina, Rev. Joplin was Ordained as a Baptist Pastor in 2007 and came to Canada in 2014. She will be recognized as one of the 2021 Woman of Influence at an online awards ceremony on March 10th  for her message of acceptance and love needed by many in the world of queer Christianity.

“MCC Toronto is both a faith community and Human Rights Centre and we celebrate and cherish diversity in all its forms. Rev. Joplin is an exceptionally talented Preacher and Pastor,” says Rev. Jeff Rock, Senior Pastor at MCC Toronto, “We couldn’t be happier to welcome June’s leadership and welcome her to our family.”

“I’m thrilled to be joining the MCC Toronto team. The church is a part of LGBTQ+ history, and has been faithfully creating a sanctuary for folks who need it for nearly 50 years,” says Rev. Joplin. “That includes plenty of exiles from other faith communities. I’m honoured to become part of this work and eager to begin writing a positive chapter in my story.”
