SEVENTY YEARS OF DEANA
At 70, Rev. Deana Dudley has plenty to celebrate—and so do we!
Her journey has taken her from practicing Maritime and Admiralty law in the United States to answering a call to ministry in Canada. She joined MCC Toronto in 2009 and became our fifth Senior Pastor in January 2024 and is the first woman and first lesbian to hold the role.
Deana brings a sharp mind, a generous heart, and boundless curiosity to everything she does, from exploring scripture and advocating for 2SLGBTQ+ dignity to making room for people’s questions, grief, faith, and hope. At home, she shares life with Janet, three cats, and one energetic dog.
Happy 70th, Deana! May the year ahead bring flourishing gardens, unexpected laughter, new adventures, and the knowledge that you’ve helped make the world kinder and more just.
A BIRTHDAY GIFT THAT LASTS
Inspired by former Board Member Colleen Kenny’s campaign for a fully accessible washroom, Rev. Deana’s birthday wish is to launch MCC Toronto’s Washroom Renovation Project, a practical expression of the welcome at the heart of our community.
Installing an automatic door opener and lock will allow people with mobility limitations, pain, or injuries to enter and secure the washroom without assistance, supporting their dignity, safety, and independence.
Accessibility means more than providing a space. It means making sure people can use it. Together, we can remove a barrier and help make our spiritual home truly welcoming.
