Job Posting: Communications Coordinator (30-hours per week)

Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto (MCC Toronto)

Location: Primarily Remote (In-person attendance required for all major events and many Sundays for content creation, as well as some in-office meetings)

Position Overview:

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing and executing MCC Toronto’s communications strategy across digital and print platforms. This position requires someone who is a thoughtful and creative storyteller, committed to amplifying diverse voices and reflecting the values of a progressive, inclusive community. The role is primarily remote but requires in-person attendance for all MCC Toronto events and many Sundays for live content creation, including photography, videography, and social media management.

Core Skills and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Email Marketing:

  • Create, manage, and distribute a weekly newsletter using Constant Contact, along with special announcements and event promotions.
  • Write engaging, clear, and mission-driven content that reflects the values and vibrancy of MCC Toronto’s community.

Social Media Management (Excluding X/Twitter):

  • Develop, schedule, and manage content on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and other platforms using Buffer.
  • Create content that promotes services, events, community life, and social justice initiatives.
  • Foster a sense of belonging and community through digital engagement and storytelling.

Content Creation – Video, Photo, and Graphics:

  • Film and edit video content for use across digital channels (e.g., worship highlights, community spotlights, event recaps, storytelling).
  • Capture photo and video during Sunday services and all MCC Toronto events.
  • Design high-quality, impactful graphics using Canva, ensuring all content is accessible, inclusive, and aligned with MCC Toronto’s voice and values.

Event Support:

  • In-person attendance is required for all MCC Toronto events and many Sundays.
  • Provide live event coverage, photography, videography, and real-time social media updates.

Website and Database Support (Assets):

  • Support website updates to ensure content is current, relevant, and reflective of community life.
  • Salesforce knowledge is an asset, especially for managing contacts, mailing lists, and audience segmentation.

Core Skills Required:

  • Proficiency with Constant Contact for weekly newsletters and email marketing.
  • Strong experience with social media management (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok) using Buffer or a similar scheduling tool.
  • Solid video filming and editing skills (iMovie, Adobe Premiere Rush, or equivalent).
  • Proficiency with Canva for graphic design and content creation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft narratives that speak to diverse audiences and lived experiences.
  • Highly organized with strong time-management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating closely with a values-driven team.
  • Comfortable working on many Sundays and attending all major events in person for content gathering and communications support.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce is an asset.
