Christmas Eve Services 2021 – Home for the Holidays is Pivoting to Online

It is with deep regret that we announce that MCC Toronto will not be proceeding with our four planned in-person Christmas Eve Services and will once again pivot to a very special Online Christmas Eve Service livestreamed on our YouTube channel at 9 PM.

Our church building will remain closed for the time being and we will also hold Online Worship Services on Sunday, December 26 and January 2 livestreamed at 11 AM with a Digital Coffee Hour immediately following at 12 noon. While this is disappointing news we will stay connected over the holidays and make sure no one is alone this season!

Despite the high rates of vaccination, including boosters and children joining the vaccinated fold – we continue to see alarmingly high COVID cases here in Toronto and across Ontario. The good news is that the latest variant Omicron – while highly contagious – is not resulting in as many hospitalizations or ICU stays. However, we continue to pray for an end to this pandemic and hold on to the hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We are all doing the best we can and we need to keep at it!

While this news will be disappointing to many of you, and this current situation is taxing our endurance to put it mildly, please know that God’s love will bring brighter times. We have now passed the winter solstice and the days are growing brighter and despite the feeling of a set back we remember that at Christmas we celebrate “The light that shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it.” (John 1:5). No matter how difficult the news is or how shadowed the night, there is always hope!!!

MCC Toronto will offer a spectacular Christmas Eve Service Livestreamed on our YouTube channel at 9 PM. Our Annual tradition of Jammies and Jeans on the Sunday after Christmas (December 26) will proceed online. And JJ Viviers will be our guest preacher on Sunday January 2, 2022 as we bring in a New Year. While our Christmas Day meal is also canceled – we will also be adding special ZOOM check ins on Christmas Eve after the Service, and Christmas Day to stay connected and make sure no one feels alone during the holidays.

In light of all this news, if you, or someone you know is struggling this season, a reminder that we at MCC Toronto care and have a terrific team of Congregational Care Lay Ministers and Clergy who offer spiritual, financial, and prayer support. As always, you can make a Care Request by filling out the easy to use form at www.mcctoronto.com/care for yourself or someone else. Moreover, let’s all commit to picking up the phone or logging into Facebook and connecting with fellow congregants, friends, and even strangers in this strangest Christmas yet. May we truly share the light and love of Christmas!
