A Historic Day for Love and Equality

Rev. Dr. Brent Hawkes, C.M., calls for all Canadians to join our American sisters and brothers to celebrate the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in favour of same-sex marriages.

Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto is thrilled to celebrate with our American friends the ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court in favour of marriage equality. This is a historic day in support of love and equality.

On January 14, 2001, Rev. Dr. Brent Hawkes, C.M., Senior Pastor at Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto, performed the first legal marriages of same-sex couples anywhere in the history of the world. Today he said “It is great to see the United States catching up with Canada and making it legally possible for same-sex couples to marry.”

On Sunday June 28, 2015, Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto will hold the largest annual outdoor church service in Canada at the Pride Toronto ‘Church on Church Street’ event. Rev. Dr. Hawkes will preach the message of universal and unconditional love to thousands of Pride revellers, including The Leader of the Official Opposition, Tom Mulcair, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, Toronto Mayor John Tory, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horvath. “We will all celebrate this wonderful victory with the LGBTQ community, our municipal, provincial and federal leaders, and our American friends who are visiting Toronto for Pride,” said Rev. Dr. Hawkes.
