47th Anniversary Sunday

MCC Toronto is very proud to announce the 2020 recipients of our Annual Awards

Beloved Disciple Award
Presented for long-term, distinguished service to the Church

Michael Dolan

A long-standing member and a past MCC Toronto Board Director, Michael Dolan has been tireless in his support of MCC Toronto’s work and mission, and instrumental in our Special Event fundraising successes for well over a decade.

Michael planned and executed our very first Bridges to Hope and Freedom Gala in 2007 and has been a key organizer in almost all our major fundraising events since, including, most recently, SWAN SONG: A Celebration of Diane Leah (2019). Michael is also one of our greatest ambassadors in the community.

Katie Winchester

For well over 15 years, Katie Winchester has brought her extraordinary musical talents, organizational skills and heart to MCC Toronto’s Music Ministry.

A Chancel Choir Award recipient (2008), Katie has lent hundreds – if not thousands! – of hours behind the scenes in support of music program operations. From stage managing Choir concerts and other MCC Toronto special events (Church on Church/Christmas Eve Service), to preparing performer bios for Sunday News, to writing and arranging music including cabarets, Katie is never shy about putting up her hand to help.

And this is beyond her active involvement as a member of The Choir of MCC Toronto and Pride & Joy. Thank you, Katie!

Currently, Catherine serves on the Board for the Toronto Botanical Garden and Friends of Ruby (formerly known as Egale Youth Services).

Alain Mootoo

Celebrating 10 years as a member of MCC Toronto, Alain Mootoo’s passion for leadership in the services sector and to the cause of people with disabilities shine through in his many professional and community involvements. His accolades include various lectures on non-profit and services sector programs and seminars, to instrumental changes to the complex Ontario Autism Program (OAP) and launching the Lived Experience Accelerator Program (LEAP).

Alain conceived and executed Toronto’s first Pride Day Float to represent LGBTQ2S+ people with disabilities and helped create the National Rock for Kids event, which has raised more than $2M for movement-based programming to help kids and adults with physical disabilities achieve their full potential and gain more control over their own lives.

Vision Alive
Presented to individuals who have taken part of the vision for our Church and made it happen

For enlivening our online webcast with heart and innovation during COVID-19

Duncan Broom

A member since 2012, a member of the Young Adults Ministry, and past Denomination General Program Conference Delegate, Duncan has always been an active participant in the MCC Toronto family.

He has volunteered at many events, came forward to become Team Lead, Webcast team in 2019, and has been a strong advocate for people with disabilities, both within and outside the Church.

During these challenging times, Duncan has brought incredible creativity and heart to elevating the quality and depth of our online Worship Services.

Claudio Tarulli

A graduate of Ryerson University’s Radio and Television Arts Program and a stay-home father, Claudio Teruli was brought to MCC Toronto’s Music Ministry via brother-in-law Mark Stephenson. At first invited to provide advice on how The Choir of MCC Toronto might be able to present their music virtually, Claudio has stayed on and served as production editor for the 22 (and counting!) musical performances that have enlivened our online webcasts since March 15.

The Choir of MCC Toronto has been enormously grateful for the magic and wizardry that Claudio has brought to their performances and the immeasurable joy he has brought to the viewers at home.
