MCC Toronto’s Church on Church at Ryerson Theatre

When: June 23, 2019 |  11:00 a.m.
Where: Ryerson Theatre | 43 Gerrard St. E (steps from Church St.)
Doors Open: 10:15 a.m.

MCC Toronto’s annual Church on Church Service – with its message of love, acceptance and understanding – has been a long-standing Toronto tradition. We are proud that many in our community continue to make Church on Church one of their must-attend events of their busy Pride weekend celebrations.

This year, we invite all to join with us!

Our theme this year is Tearing Down the Walls. Building Up Hope. It is an ode to the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots and in recognition of MCC Toronto’s work as a Human Rights organization.

Led by Senior Pastor Rev. Jeff Rock, this year’s service will have musical performances by The Choir of MCC Toronto, and Sterling Jarvis. We are also thrilled to announce that Robert Markus, from the current on-stage Toronto production of Dear Evan Hansen, will be joining Music Director Diane Leah on stage for a very special performance. You will not want to miss this!

This marks Music Director Diane Leah’s final Pride Service prior to her retirement from MCC Toronto later this year.

The support of friends and members is critical to our efforts to bring our message of love to our broader communities during Pride. Consider becoming a donor.

Where: MCC Toronto | 115 Simpson Ave.

On this 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall riots that launched the modern pride movement, we begin our 2019 Pride month by paying tribute to the contributions of people of colour in our push for LGBTQ2+ equality. Rev. Cathy Alexander from MCC Washington DC will lead our reflection and our Soulful Worship and Praise (SWaP) choir will lead music.

Rev. Cathy Alexander serves the Metropolitan Community Church of Washington DC as the Associate Pastor. She also serves as the Network Co-Leader for the MCC Eastern Network (DC, VA, MD, WV, DE, NJ). Cathy has a passion for living worship, music, theology and learning. She is actively involved with MCC at both the local and denominational levels from leadership retreats to serving on denominational teams. Locally she is engaged in the annual Pride Interfaith service planning team as well as a variety of spiritual connection groups. She was also on the National LGBTQ Task Force local planning committee for the Annual National Creating Change conference. She graduated with honors from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC as well as the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.  Cathy enjoys singing, small group conversations, playing the guitar and traveling.
