If you’re
not sure what you’d like to do or what’s available, visit a Volunteer
Ministry member at the located at the Information Centre after any service.
Our team member will
provide you with all the information you require to get started.
Volunteer work is one of the most rewarding and valuable things you can
do. Come and find out what your spiritual gifts are and where you can use
them. We’d love to meet you and talk about what you can do at MCC
Toronto.
INFORMATION CENTRE VOLUNTEERS (Spiritual
Gifts: Administration, Leadership, Hospitality, Giving)
Each Sunday, during and following the first
and second services, volunteers at the Information Centre provide
assistance to both congregants and staff in a variety of ways …from
signing out room keys; answering the phone in order to direct calls to
staff as well as provide verbal directions to the church; order and
dispense Sunday service tapes; provide sign-up and information for various
functions and activities; sell Choir CDs and sometimes those of other
church performers; serve as a friendly contact for newcomers to MCC
Toronto and welcome them to our services with our church "Welcome"
package.
Our
volunteers are a dedicated, warm and caring friendly "family" who are
seeking new members to join our team. You will receive ample training and
will be working with experienced volunteers at all times in order to
assure you of a supportive comfort level. It is one of the best ways to
become involved and acquainted with a host of people here at MCC Toronto
and to feel "truly connected". You would be required to work ONE service
on ONE Sunday each month …not an onerous task but a wonderful way to feel
involved and become part of one of our "Church Families".
If
this interests you, please leave your name, phone # and e-mail (if you
have one) with one of our volunteers any Sunday at the Information Centre
in the Social Hall.
ALTAR GUILD
(Spiritual Gifts: Faith, Service)
The Altar Guild of MCC Toronto is a
very integral part of the worship service. Presently, the Altar Guild has
nine (9) volunteers. These nine volunteers look after this ministry which
really needs 24 volunteers in order to run with a full compliment. The
time commitment for the Altar Guild is one Sunday a month at either the
9:00 a.m. service or the 11:00 a.m. service. In order for our Ministry
Team Leaders to do the best job possible, they need all positions filled
so that they can mentor, coach, nurture and improve their teams. Please
consider becoming a part of this very spiritual ministry and give back
to your church home. Training is provided. Come into the
Volunteer Ministry Office for details.
SIGNING MINISTRY
In order for our church to really be ‘a
house for all people’ there are many areas to be discussed as we look into
the future. One of those areas is the Signing Ministry and the need to
enhance the service we offer to the hearing impaired. We can do this by
building a solid team of Signers. Presently, we have a couple of great
people who sign on an ad hoc basis, but they can’t do it all. We need the
help and guidance of those most directly affected.
In order to start this
process, I would like to host a meeting with anyone who is interested in
getting this started. A meeting in which we can talk about what is
needed, how we can get there, ideas, thoughts, issues, concerns. I know
there are a number of people who would very much benefit and have a vested
interest in this endeavour, but I need you to come forward and help.
I am asking you to come
into the Volunteer Ministry Office after the service today and get your
name on a list for that first meeting. It wouldn’t take a huge amount of
time, we can do it on a Sunday when you’re already here, and the rewards
would be wonderful. Wouldn’t it be marvellous if you were part of
building this very special ministry so that more and more people see MCC
Toronto as truly ‘a house for all people’. Come into the office
today. I’d be more than happy to meet with you about moving forward in
this ministry.
VOLUNTEER MINISTRY
OFFICE GREETERS
(Spiritual Gifts: Hospitality,
Administration)
In order for us to make sure
anyone who wants to volunteer has the opportunity to meet and talk with
someone, we need at least five (5) more volunteers in the Volunteer
Ministry Office after the worship services. Presently there are three
people plus a Team Leader and they need help. If we had 8 people the
volunteer compliment would be full and the work load would be less for
everyone.
The volunteers on this
team are responsible to be in the Volunteer Ministry Office for
approximately 45 minutes to an hour after the service has ended. The
volunteer is available to speak to anyone who wants information about
volunteering and provide them with the necessary paperwork to complete.
But, most of all these volunteers provide a welcoming atmosphere for all
newcomers. This
is a wonderful way to meet people and a great way to get to know what’s
going on in the Volunteer Ministry.
SERMON SCRIBES
(Spritual Gift: Administration)
“Help Wanted” The Web
Ministry’s Transcriber Team is looking for one or more people to assist on
a regular basis in creating Adobe pdf documents of transcribed sermons for
posting on the web. This volunteer position requires you to copy the text
of the transcription into a MS WORD document template; create a pdf file;
and, email it to the Web Manager for posting. You must have a computer
with MS WORD, Acrobat Adobe Writer and email. Volunteers for one or more
specific Sundays each month are welcomed. If you’d like to see an
example, please see our 2003 Lessons for Life page on our website,
www.mcctoronto.com. Interested? Come into the Volunteer Ministry
Office after any service for more details.
APPRENTICES
It is critical to the success of
each ministry that no interruptions occur in providing services. For this
to be possible there should always be someone available to take over the
reins of a leader, if required. If you’d like to be more involved but
want to practice first, this may be a great chance for you to do so. If
you’d like to be an apprentice for your ministry or another ministry,
please come into the Volunteer Ministry Office for more details.
RECEPTION
(Spiritual Gifts: Administration, Service)
In an effort to add value when
people call the church during the week we have found that it is extremely
beneficial to have a ‘live’ voice on the other end of the line.
At the present time, we have a number of people who come into the church
during the week to volunteer on Reception. Right now we have an
opportunity for someone to take the position of Receptionist on
Wednesdays. The phone system here is relatively simple and
there may be some light clerical work from time to time. If you can
afford to spend Wednesday’s here at the church, I’d love to talk to you
further about this opportunity. Please come into the Volunteer
Ministry Office after the worship service. I’d be glad to provide
you with more information.
SANCTUARY SAINTS
(Spiritual Gift: Service)
As you sit in the worship service
today look around at the fully stocked pews, the clean railings the shiny
brass doorplates. These things don’t happen all by themselves. There
are no little elves coming in on Sunday morning to clean things up and
make sure we have everything we need. This work is done by a group of
people who are appropriately named Sanctuary Saints. The Sanctuary Saints
are a group of volunteers who come into the church during the week and
prepare the Sanctuary for Sunday. In order to have a full compliment,
this team needs three more volunteers. The commitment is once a month for
a couple of hours. Come into the Volunteer Ministry Office today and
find out more about this opportunity.
ANOINTER/SERVER
TEAM LEADERS (Spiritual Gifts: Faith, Service)
Leaders required for the 2nd
Sunday of the month at the 11:00 a.m. service and the 3rd.

Ministry Office after the service for more information.
