From Senior Pastor Brent Hawkes
As you can imagine it has been a very tough year personally. I want to thank you for your support, your prayers and your patience. I know that this has been very difficult for many of you as well.
I would like to thank the staff, deacons, reference group and listening circle participants, and all of you who have stepped up to provide leadership and support and who have kept MCC Toronto functioning at such a high level during my absence – and particularly through our grieving of Deacon Darlene Morris’s death.
We believe the trial went well, and I am hopeful that the judge’s verdict will be not guilty and this chapter will end.
The past few weeks have been much more emotionally and physically challenging than I anticipated. I thought that I would be able to return home and bounce back quickly, but I need more time to rest and recover.
I need to regain my energy, perspective, and strength. I will start by gently phasing back to work at the office during the week.
We will gauge my capacity to return to a fuller work schedule on a weekly basis, including worship leadership and preaching.
I will be in regular conversation with the staff, and the board, as we assess my progress.
And just so you know that deep down I’m the same old Brent, this has been a challenging time for myself and our church, but we have and always will be a strong, supportive and giving community. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that even if I am not present on Sunday for the offering call, I truly hope everyone will be inspired to give generously to our year end campaign. It’s so important we reach our goals so we may continue to be the church God has called us all to be.
Again, thank you. I look forward to my return to full health and serving you fully as your Senior Pastor.
