Rev. Dr. John Pentland

Join us for a dynamic workshop on Progressive Christianity!

Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto invites you to a 1-day workshop with Rev. Dr. John Pentland, the author of “Fishing Tips: How Curiosity Transformed a Community of Faith.”

This will be an interactive workshop on how the 9 ways Hillhurst United Church engaged curiosity to transform its church. Through stories, slides and conversation we will explore what needs to happen where we are on the journey. Not a manual or road map, rather an invitation to explore.

When: February 25, 2017, 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Lunch will be provided.

There will be a book signing and book sales!

This is an event for clergy and congregations who want to thrive amidst the changing tides of 21st century ministry. Explore with John his congregational experiences and how they might relate to your context.

You can purchase your ticket online or at the door (tickets at the door will be $25).

John Pentland has been the minister at Hillhurst United Church since September of 2005.

He is originally from Ontario, and studied at Queen’s University, the University of Toronto, Princeton University, and the University of Chicago, earning his D.Min. in 2002.

John is married to Anna Martin. Together they parent four children: Jesse, Josh, Allie, and recent addition Charlotte Sophia.

He is passionate about making connections between religion or spirituality and living a meaningful life. With one foot in the church, and one in the community, he believes that what we do at Hillhurst United should impact and support all areas of our life.

He explores crossover theology with topics like wine and spirituality, “reel” theology, and issues of lived hospitality.

When John is not at Hillhurst, or volunteering with the United Way of Calgary and Area, he can be found running in the neighborhood with his dog, coaching or playing soccer, or driving his kids to soccer and hockey.

He is excited to be working in a community that seeks relevance, connection and the living of a passionate life.

We are excited to be welcoming Rev. Dr. Pentland to MCC Toronto!
