Spirituality in the Face of Adversity- A Bridge
Over Troubled Water – ASE 1450
“When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.”
And I wish I would have known.
Many
of us have struggled through loss; loss of health, job, a pet, partner,
life, a way of knowing ourselves, a way of knowing God, and have wondered
why God seemed so distant? Our spiritual journey invites us to walk the
pathways of questioning, longing, anger, denial, survival, gratitude and
acceptance. This reflective course will be a co-journey of questioners and
seekers who grow together in addressing the big questions surrounding loss,
adversity and the presence of God.
Dates: Tuesdays, Feb 28, Mar 6 – 27, Apr 3 - 24
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Tuition: $45.00
Co-facilitators: Lynn Heath & Joe Jamieson
MCC Worldwide – the Denomination – ASE 1460
MCC
Toronto is part of something much larger! In 1968, Rev. Troy Perry started
the first MCC in the living room of his home in Los Angeles. Since then
Metropolitan Community Churches have grown into a worldwide spiritual and
social justice movement with 43,000 members, in over 200 churches, in 23
countries. This course will consider the history, structure and governance
of MCC Churches, as well as the values, theologies and cultures that have
shaped our denomination. This will all be explored in the larger context of
LGBTQ liberation movements and the global religious context.
Dates:
Mondays, Feb 20-27, Mar 5-26
Time: 7:00 – 8:30 pm
Tuition: $25.00
Facilitators: Raquel Benitez
Telling Our Stories: A Course in
Spiritual Memoir – ASE 1470
The spiritual journey is individual, highly personal. It can't be organized
or regulated. It isn't true that everyone should follow one path. Listen to
your own truth." – Ram Dass
One way of increasing our awareness
of our own spiritual journey—its beginnings, influences, changes, and
current direction—is to create our own spiritual memoir. In this six week
course, participants will explore the meaningful events and circumstances of
life, and how they have shaped our purpose, our lives, and our selves.
Facilitators will offer useful strategies for writing, and there will be
opportunities to share what we have written with other participants, so that
we might encourage and uplift one another! LIMITED TO 8 PARTICIPANTS!
Dates: Tuesdays, Feb 21 – 28,
Mar 6 – 27
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Tuition: $50.00
Co-Facilitators: Janet Fitzsimmons & Lorraine Lederer
And
courses back by popular demand!...
The Joy of Sects: Encounters with World
Religion – ASE-1300
One
of our most popular courses is being offered again! Do all religions lead
to God, or is “Truth” the exclusive domain of one spiritual path? One of our
bedrock beliefs is that there are many paths to God - how well do we
practice our belief? In this course, we will try to understand other faith
traditions from their point of view, and then try to “re-understand”
Christianity through the lenses of these other faith traditions
Dates: Thursdays, Feb 23, Mar 1 –
29, Apr 5 - 19
Time: 6:45-9:00pm
Tuition:
$40.00
Co-Facilitators: Mike Thorn & Jo Oppenheimer
Meditations & Musings – ASE 1430
In this six session course, held
on alternate Friday evenings, you will have an opportunity to bring
stillness into your daily life through guided group meditation practice, and
insightful readings and reflections from exemplary human beings. Each
session will open with a guided focused breathing meditation and close with
a guided loving-kindness meditation. In the middle (where the good stuff
lies), we will reflect on the wisdom of an inspirational teacher, author and
human being with a reading and short contemplative discussion.
All are welcome, no prior meditation experience
required. Come out, be
still, and treat yourself to your biweekly dose of M&Ms!
Dates: Alternate
Fridays, starting Feb 3 (Feb. 3, 17, Mar 2, 16, 30, Apr 13)
Total of six biweekly sessions.
Time: 7:00pm - 8:00pm
Tuition: $5/session or $25 for all six sessions
Facilitator: Valerie De Souza
